Planning your coffee region visit

Salento is the most popular base for coffee tourism — a colorful town at 1,895m, gateway to the Cocora Valley and surrounded by working fincas. Filandia, just north, is a quieter and equally charming alternative. Most travelers spend two to three nights to combine a coffee farm tour, the wax palms of Cocora, and the towns themselves.

Coffee tours run year-round. The main harvest in the region falls roughly between October and December, with a secondary “mitaca” harvest around April to June — but the plantation and process are fascinating in any season.

What to bring

Comfortable closed shoes for uneven terrain, a light rain layer, sunscreen and water. Mornings are bright and afternoons can bring a quick mountain shower. Cash is handy for tips and small purchases at the farm.
